Waypoint is a ta-da list, not a to-do list. Instead of nagging you with what's left, it captures what you finished and the threads you've parked — so tomorrow-you never starts from a blank page. It works fully offline, syncs when you sign in, and an optional AI helps without ever taking the pen out of your hand.
Open Waypoint in any browser at app.thewaypoint.work — nothing to install, and it works the moment it loads. Prefer a native app? Download for Mac (Apple Silicon) — it adds Focus mode on your desktop and self-updates.
You don't need an account to start: notes live on your device. Sign in (Google, GitHub, Microsoft, or a magic link) only when you want them to sync across devices and to unlock the AI assistant and voice — those run through a secure server so no AI keys ever touch your browser.
Every note (a “mark”) lives in one of five states. Moving between them is the workflow — drag a card, tap a pip, or just ask the AI.
Sensed but unconfirmed — captured by voice or by your AI agents (via MCP). Nothing is real until you confirm it; drafts show where they came from and a confidence read.

Capture is one line and one tap — “Stick it up.” Type what you did or what's on your mind, pick a state, and it's saved. That's the whole ritual; the speed is the point.
A slim bar lets you add two lightweight tags when they help — they stay out of your way otherwise:
Type rough shorthand, tap the sparkle, and the AI rewrites it into a clean mark — fixing wording and suggesting a Group/Thread. Your original is always kept; one tap reverts. It's clarity cleanup of your own words, never a rewrite you didn't ask for.
The Board is the whole flow on one wall — Draft · Doing · Next · Done · Keep as columns. Drag a whole card across columns to confirm a draft, wrap something in Doing, or reopen a done item (keyboard: focus a card, then ←/→).
Auto-tidy (the wand button in the Board header) runs one AI pass over the whole board: it puts each item in the right column, promotes the genuinely important things to Doing, rewrites notes crisply, normalizes your tags, and consolidates obvious duplicates. It's non-destructive — it only touches what it actually improves, and tells you what it changed.
Today is your capture home — a big sticky to jot what's on your mind, give it a state, and Stick it up. A Today·Canvas dock holds the day's notes you can drag and tidy, and a timeline shows your day so far. Drafts is the holding pen for everything sensed for you — from voice or your connected AI tools — each showing its source and a confidence read, waiting for a one-tap confirm. Nothing leaves Drafts without your say-so.
On the Mac app, Focus mode turns your waypoints into real sticky notes that float on your desktop — and the app itself drops to a tidy menu-bar icon, out of the way. From the Focus menu (or ⌥Space) you choose:
Drag them anywhere; they remember where you put them. Notes stay at the normal window level by default (so other apps can sit on top) — flip on Keep notes on top in Settings or the menu-bar if you want them always visible.
Waypoint's AI is built to draft, never decide. There are two ways things get captured, and both land as a Draft you confirm:
The in-app assistant answers from your real marks — “what did I get done today?” builds you a standup from what's actually there, rather than making something up.
Hands-free capture: speak and it drafts a mark. Ambient listening is off by default and never auto-confirms — when it's on, the UI says so plainly, and audio is transcribed by OpenAI (not on-device). You're always in control of the mic.
The agent operates in plain language across three modes: Review (read-only) → Suggest (every change asks first) → Autopilot (applies within guardrails, never destructive). It drafts; you stay the author; nothing is kept until confirmed.

Apple Stickies is the fastest scratch pad on a Mac — but notes never gain a state, never sync, and there's no recall. OneNote is a real knowledge base for long-form notes and hierarchy — heavier than a sticky, and not built around what you got done. Todoist is an excellent to-do manager: due dates, recurring tasks, reminders, priorities. Waypoint is deliberately the opposite end — a ta-da list with no streaks or deadlines, built for continuity (where you left off, what you parked) and for AI agents to read and contribute to your record. Reach for Todoist when the job is “don't forget to do X by Friday”; reach for Waypoint when it's “keep up with everything in motion.”
